Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to our most common questions.
Yes — completely. Not a single person at YHBR has ever received a salary or stipend. Every dollar donated goes directly to animal care: vet bills, food, supplies, and operations. Our volunteers do this purely out of love for animals and community. This has been true since day one.
Our shelter location at 1020 S 4th Ave, Suite B, Yuma, AZ 85364 houses our cats and is open for visits. Hours are generally Mon–Fri 12pm–5pm, though availability varies — please contact us before visiting to confirm. Dogs are in foster homes across Yuma; meet-and-greets are arranged after application approval.
Once your adoption application is reviewed and approved, we'll schedule a meet-and-greet. For cats, this can happen at our shelter. For dogs in foster homes, we arrange meetings at a convenient location in Yuma. We also host regular adoption events — follow our Facebook page for announcements.
We review surrenders on a case-by-case basis based on our current foster capacity. Please use the Surrender Request form above or email Sam@yhbr.org with photos and details about the animal. We'll do our best to help or connect you with additional resources.
Yes! We offer free and low-cost spay/neuter assistance for qualifying Yuma residents. Use the Spay/Neuter Assistance form above or email Sam@yhbr.org. We believe spay/neuter is the single most impactful way to reduce pet overpopulation at the source.
For found animals, please first contact Yuma County Animal Control at (928) 341-8800. If the animal is in immediate danger, call local authorities. YHBR can sometimes assist with rehoming found pets when capacity allows — email us with details and we'll do our best to help or connect you with resources.
