A Story of Hope & Heart
Founded in 2020, Yuma Homeward Bound Animal Rescue was born from a simple belief: no animal should be left behind. What started as a small group of passionate friends has grown into a vital lifeline for Yuma's most vulnerable pets β and not one person has ever been paid a single dollar to do it.
Our Mission
To rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abandoned, neglected, and at-risk animals in the Yuma, AZ area β while empowering our community through education, spay/neuter programs, and building a culture where every life is valued and every pet has a chance.
Our Values
We are driven by compassion, radical transparency, and community trust. We believe that the strength of a rescue is measured not by the number of animals saved, but by the quality of care each one receives β in both body and spirit. Every volunteer, every dollar, every foster family is part of this covenant.
Our Promise
No animal in our care will ever be euthanized for time or space β full stop. And every dollar you donate goes directly to an animal's care. Not overhead, not salaries β animals. This is not marketing language. It is the lived reality of how we operate every single day.
Foster-Based. Community-Powered. Volunteer-Fueled.
YHBR is a foster-based rescue β our animals live in real homes across Yuma with loving foster families while they await adoption. Our office is at 1020 S 4th Ave, Suite B, Yuma, AZ 85364.
The science behind this model is clear: animals in home environments show lower stress hormones, better socialization, and are adopted faster than kennel-housed animals (Hennessy et al., 2001). When you foster, you're literally improving an animal's neurological and behavioral outcomes.
Every rescue is fully vetted, vaccinated, and spayed or neutered before being listed for adoption. We also run a foster-to-adopt program for animals whose medical care is still in progress β care for them now, and adoption is finalized when they're fully cleared.
Our Journey
Growing from a pandemic-era mission into a vital Yuma rescue.
Founded During the Pandemic
In the heart of the 2020 pandemic, Megan Springer saw the urgent need for a safe haven and founded YHBR β a volunteer-powered force for good in Yuma.

Growing Every Day
YHBR keeps expanding its foster network, community outreach, and life-saving programs. The best chapters are still being written β with your help.
Our Programs
YHBR operates several programs that together create a comprehensive safety net for Yuma's animals.
Hearts & Homes Foster Network
Our foster families across Yuma provide safe, loving environments for rescued animals until they're adopted. Foster parents are YHBR's biggest heroes β and we provide all food, supplies, and vet care.
Forever Friends Field Trips
Volunteers take shelter cats on outings and enrichment activities. These adventures build confidence, improve socialization, and make animals more adoptable β supported by behavioral science.
Treat App Donations
Anyone can donate to YHBR for free by playing games on the Treat App. Download it, select Homeward Bound, and earn points that turn into food, treats, and medical care for our animals.
Spay/Neuter Assistance Program
We actively provide and facilitate free and low-cost spay/neuter services for community members in Yuma β addressing the root cause of pet overpopulation at the source.
The Hearts Behind YHBR
Our team is made up entirely of passionate volunteers who dedicate their time, energy, and homes to saving Yuma's animals. Not a single person is paid β this is pure love in action.
Megan Springer

Samantha Wilder
Shelter Coordinator
Sam is at the shelter every single day, caring for our cats and coordinating meet-and-greets. Her dedication ensures every cat in our care is socialized, loved, and ready for their forever home.
Bulldog Rescue Team
Specialty Rescue
Our dedicated bulldog volunteer travels to high-kill shelters when we have foster availability, giving bulldogs a second chance. Email Molly to get involved.
Foster Families
Our Heroes
These extraordinary Yuma residents open their homes to animals in need. Without our foster families, YHBR would not exist. Research confirms: fostering is transformational for both animal and human.
