Bulldog Rescue Program
One of our most passionate volunteers has a deep love for bulldogs β and the dedication to act on it. When we have available foster homes, she travels to high-kill shelters across the region to pull bulldogs who have run out of time. This is pure, volunteer-driven rescue work at its most personal.
Saving Bulldogs from High-Kill Shelters
Bulldogs and bully breeds are consistently among the most at-risk animals in high-kill shelters. Their perceived "aggression" (often just exuberance), their medical needs, and their size lead to earlier euthanasia timelines at overcrowded facilities.
Our dedicated volunteer monitors high-kill shelters and travels to pull bulldogs when YHBR has available foster homes in Yuma. Every dog she pulls has a plan: medical care, a foster home, and an adoption pathway.
This program runs entirely on foster availability. The more bulldog-experienced fosters we have, the more lives we can save. If you love bulldogs and have space β we need you.
Foster-to-Adopt for Bulldogs
Many bulldogs in our program enter as foster-to-adopt: they may need spay/neuter surgery or remaining vaccinations before adoption is finalized. You foster them while we handle their medical care β and adoption is completed once they're fully cleared. You get to know them first, and they get to feel safe from day one.
Why Bulldogs?
Bulldogs are loyal, gentle, and deeply bonded to their humans β but they're frequently misunderstood and disproportionately represented on euthanasia lists at high-intake shelters. One volunteer's love for this breed became a program.
Medical Support
Bulldogs often come with health needs β respiratory concerns, skin conditions, or joint issues. YHBR covers all medical costs for every dog in our program. Foster families pay nothing.
